The traditional definition of SANDWICH**:

a: two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between

b : one slice of bread covered with food (open faced)

**We have expanded our definition to include wraps and creative takes are encouraged even though they run the risk of being judged poorly if not well received.

Seeding

Seeding will be drawn at random with trading of position allowed up until the start of the competition.  In the event of late entry, seeding will have to be redrawn for every participant.  In the event a competitor drops out, all seeding will be moved up accordingly.

Flights

Contestants will participate in pairs for "kitchen time" of 25 minute increments.  Each pair will be staggered by 5 minutes to prevent overlap.  We have a "be cool" policy on going over in time, meaning going slightly over is no big deal, but going over by too much may get a participant disqualified at the discretion of the group if they feel it impacts the competition negatively.

Attendance

All competitors must be present by the end of the first flight of participants or they are disqualified from judging and winning.  This is done so all competitors sandwiches will be will be delivered at their best, not cold or congealed.

Judging & Scoring

Judging is done by all contestants for every sandwich but their own.  For example if there are 10 contestants, they will all receive a score from 9 judges.  The winner is determined by tallying all points.  Contestants are encourage to provide even handed and fair judging regardless of personal stake in the competition

Scoring is done on a card (pictured below) and is derived from the scoring system from the Iron Chef television show.  The score factors the following four categories:

Taste: The flavor of the sandwich in comparison to the others.  This is the most valuable category and comprises 50% of the overall score.  This category is worth 50% of the overall score. .

Creativity: Originality in the concept, ingredients and execution of the sandwich.  This category is worth 25% of the overall score.

Presentation and "Eatability": The overall look, visual appeal, structural integrity and ease of consumption of the sandwich from beginning to end.    This category is worth 25% of the overall score.

Each competitor will rank the sandwich with descending rank based on the number of competitors.  For example if there are 9 people competing, the remaining 8 sandwiches are ranked from 8 to 1, 8 being the highest.  (See "Ignacio's" sample score sheet below)

In the event of a tie the contest will be determined by the highest taste score.  If there is still a tie, there will be a head to head vote off to determine the winner.  In the event of an even number of participants voting, the person in last place will not be allowed to cast a vote.

The 2013 seeding will drawn after confirmation is received from all contestants:
